(when making an elixir ensure that the mineral you are using is not toxic!) I like obsidian stones for grounding and clearing blocked emotions. When you release that which no longer serves you ,the path is open for you to move forward and be open to restoring balance and harmony in your life. During times of grief and mourning , I have worked with black obsidian and Apache tears and found them grounding and comforting. Black obsidian is used to severe emotional cords. I recommend using it to brush your your auric field. Black Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass that is silica-rich and is formed when molten lava cools and solidifies so quickly that crystals do not have time to form. The dark color is due to presence of iron oxide and magnesium. Hematite inclusions will produce red and reddish-brown varieties of of obsidian. If bits of feldspar or quartz are present banding may form and create patterns as seen in snowflake obsidian. The rainbow-like sheen in rainbow obsidian is due to magnetite inclusions and gas bubbles contained within the obsidian can produce a golden sheen as seen in sheen obsidian. It is said that an ancient Roman explorer named Obsius found a stone, obsianus lapis in Ethiopia that resembles obsidian and when obsidian was discovered it was named after obsianus lapis.
