This unique chalcedony baby is from a relatively new find in Morocco that was introduced at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show in 2016. This form of chalcedony is also known as Witch’s Wart Stone, Witches Wart Stone, Womb Stone and Truffle Chalcedony. It is a combination of creams, browns, and grays in color that forms in unusual nodular shapes. They are a soothing meditation aid. There is a soft translucency to this piece, especially when back-lit and it will make a nice addition to any collection. Locality: Morocco Size: 1.5" x 2.5" x 1.0" This chalcedony nodule is a perfect size for carrying with you, using in grid work or for wire wrapping. I have always found chalcedony to be a calming and soothing stone, just like cool river water running over my feet. It is also associated with clearing and strengthening the aura. Chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of quartz and these nodules form in rough, botryoidal, ball shapes that give them their unique appearance. This appearance lends itself to the names witches wart and womb stone as well as truffle stone. It is said that its name Chalcedony is derived from the Greek port city of Chalcedon where it is reported to have first been found. Chalcedony has been used as a decorative stone in carvings and jewelry since antiquity from cultures that span the globe. Chalcedony seals have been found in the Mediterranean that date back to 1800 BC, three varieties of chalcedony were used in the Jewish High Priest’s breastplate, objects from Afghanistan have been found, and it is said to be used in Native American ceremonies. Chalcedony colors include, white to light blue, grayish-blue, pink, red and copper, though in theory, chalcedony cold be any color. It is often banded with stripes.
