Pyrite is both grounding and energizing which is a perfect combination for balancing polarities and is considered a powerful protection stone that dispels negative energy. Also known as “fool’s gold” because its shiny metallic yellow color that has often caused it to be mistaken for gold by novice gold prospectors. When pyrite is struck against metal or a hard material it gives off sparks which can be used to start a fire. The ancient Incas were said to use pyrite as a mirror. Pyrite is an iron sulfide mineral and its crystal patterns are cubic, pyritohedral or octahedral with a metallic luster. Also seen as granular, botryoidal, stalactic or nodular.
